Tales from the street

Islamabad - Lahore

Islamabad

The Faisal Mosque and its intriguing architecture, where crowds of people walk around, others pray, while some take pictures or simply play.

An inflatable toy seller waiting for cars to stop, hoping to sell a toy to a child.

In a car somewhere, a bored child, hoping his parents will stop the car to buy him a toy.

One-way discussion: one of the car repairers in a square in the G9 district, a veritable open-air garage.

Knowing how to listen to others

Lahore

The very royal -imperial even- Badshahi Mosque in the center of Lahore and its delicate arches, red sandstone, marble and painted ceilings. Here, we play, we pray, we sleep and gossip.

The Sheesh Mahal -palace of mirrors- in the heart of the Shahi Qila, featuring an annex, with its elegant marble roof imitating an imperial war tent. Not far away, the Pearl Mosque, the Moti Masjid, with a very evocative name, embodies a small, intimate sanctuary in the heart of the fort whose ivory glow would be reflected in the Sheesh Mahal if these two magnificent structures were not so far apart.

The Wazir Khan Mosque, a worshipper praying there, rooting himself in faith, to face the stormy waves and winds of life.

Two worlds, two speeds, two space-time

Pehelwani

"heroic wrestling"

Putting on a loincloth as sole clothing, becoming one with the dirt, cultivating one's body, watering it with exercise and growing strength in it to fight like a hero.

Climb to the treetops without leaving the ground, cover yourself with earth as if to take a little of its power: becoming invincible, unbeatable, eternal

Khubanistan: the land of apricots

A precious time spent with the inhabitants living on the shores of Lake Borith. Apricot producers, wheat farmers, vegetable cultivators, herders: they live and migrate according to the seasons. We taste the apricots, help with the harvest and are invited to drink tea with chapati in a traditional village house.

Abbas and his apricots, drying in the sun, after a life spent on the trees dominated by tall peaks.
